“Don’t touch me!” Mia shouted, pushing Jason away.
“You’re bleeding. I need to-”
“No,” she told him firmly. “I...I’m HIV positive. I don’t want you touching my blood.”
Jason frowned. “Mia, I have gloves and no open wounds. I’ll be fine. Didn’t know you cared, though.”
Mia scowled. “I don’t care about you, Todd, but I’d rather not have my disease spread.”
“It won’t,” Jason said firmly. “Either let me patch you up now, or I’ll wait until you pass out from the blood loss. Your choice, but you’re more likely to live if I patch you up now.”
“...I hate when you have a point,” she muttered, reluctantly lifting her shirt, so Jason could bandage the wound beneath her breasts.
Jason grabbed a water bottle and used the clean part of Mia’s cape as a wash cloth, wiping away the dirt and extra bits around the wound. Mia had never seen Jason work so carefully, touching another person so carefully, let alone herself. It was kind of surreal.
Once the wound was cleaned, Jason pulled back and ripped the bottom half of his shirt off. “What are you doing?” Mia asked, getting woozy from the blood loss.
“You need bandages, and since there aren’t any around, strips of my shirt will have to due until I get you to the hospital,” he explained as he carefully wrapped the strips around her torso, making sure to keep the wound bound up tight.
Mia groaned, her eye lids feeling heavy. “Thanks, Jason...” she murmured.
Jason frowned. “You musta lost more blood than I thought, or did you lucidly just thank me?”
“Maybe, but still. I... Other people would have let me bleed when they heard about my HIV. You didn’t,” she said quietly.
Carefully, Jason scooped Mia into his arms. “Well, I’m not like most people. You should know that by now.”
Mia made a quiet almost laugh. “Yeah, I think I know that pretty well by now.”
