15pairings (Theme: why bother). AU where Light's at the Whammy House. Matt has a theory to test out, and Light is his victim.

Light had come to Whammy’s House about the same time Matt had arrived. When not dealing with the turmoil of the reasons they were at Whammy’s House begins with (they were all orphans; no one spoke of the why or the how of it; it just was), Matt and Light were bored out of their exceptionally bright minds. (connection number one)
Since Near had not arrived yet (no one knew who he was at that point, so why mention it?), so Light was number one, while Mello was infuriatingly number two, and Matt number three. Light did not care about the numbers and neither did Matt. (connection number two)
Now, a third connection had formed. Mello would not talk to either of them. It was normal for Mello not to talk to Light; he hated him, but he usually never ignored Matt. That was, until Matt got a grade slightly higher than Mello that threatened Mello’s place as number two, but only slightly. Matt never would have studied to beat Mello. That would be too boring.
Light sat at the desk in the common room, writing, studying, or whatever; Matt did not care enough to find out what Light was doing, but he was bored enough to watch. Without Mello plotting and scheming with him, Matt was more bored, if possible.
Although bored, Matt was intrigued by Light. Light was four years older than Matt, but they both were bored. It made Matt wonder if boredom was a permanent ailment, one that had no cure. There were temporary cures. Like the one Matt was going to try out right now.
Matt looked to see if Mello was in the corner glaring at Light and munching at his chocolate bar, and of course, he was. What else would Mello be doing? Matt had calculated a plan. It was not much of a plan since there was really no logistics to it; it was completely random which was the brilliance of it. Light would never see it coming, and Matt could test a theory while he was at it.
Matt quietly walked to where Light was sitting. He felt Mello’s stare burning holes through the back of his head. Matt tapped Light’s shoulder, and when Light turned around, Matt kissed him, hard and full on the mouth.
Matt could hear Mello choking on his chocolate as Matt’s tongue deftly swept through Light’s mouth once before pulling away. Light looked completely shocked while Matt felt the boredom seep out of him, for the moment.
“I was testing a theory,” Matt stated as Light regained his composure.
“Right...” Light trailed off. “I’d rather if you did not use me to ‘test your theories’ anymore, Matt.”
Matt shrugged as Light turned back to his work. Matt guessed this meant a few connections such as constant boredom and having Mello’s ire does not make a good kiss. That was the first part of his theory that had been disproved, but he could feel the second part of his theory coming up fast behind him.
“Matt!” Mello exclaimed, and Matt turned around only to have Mello shove him up against a wall angrily.
“Yes, Mello? I thought we weren’t on speaking terms,” Matt said nonchalantly, angering Mello further.
“Shut. Up,” Mello growled. “I can’t let you out of my sight, can I? You’ll just do something incredibly stupid.”
Matt bit his tongue on the fact Mello was watching him the whole time Matt had gone to test his theory. “This means you’ll stop ignoring me?” Matt asked as Mello let go of the front of his shirt.
Mello snorted. “Yeah,” he said as he turned to walk away. “C’mon, I got a theory I want to test out.”
Matt’s ears perked up at that. Perhaps his little test may yield better results than Matt had hoped.
