“You know,” Donna said quietly as she watched Tim sleep from the doorway, “you don’t have to fix all your impostor’s mistakes. They aren’t your own. You don’t need to take them as your own.”

“He tried to kill my family, Donna,” Jason replied, not looking into the room that Tim was sleeping in. “He could have succeeded. What then? It’s my fault he was able to take the Red Robin costume and pretend to be me to begin with.”

Donna shook her head and closed the door to the guest bedroom. “It’s not your fault. He caught you when you were vulnerable. You were mourning the man who gave you that costume and was another version of the man that took you in as a child,” she murmured. “Anyone of us could have ended up in your position. If it had been Diana...”

“I should have been able to...” Jason trailed off, shaking his head. “It doesn’t matter. I have to do this, Donna.”

“You think you have to redeem yourself, but you don’t,” she said, wrapping her arms around him. “Your family will understand, eventually.”

Jason tensed at first but then relaxed into the hug, loosely wrapping his arms around her waist. “Maybe, but I still need to do this.” He paused, taking a deep breath. “It’s for my peace of mind, not for my family.

“Okay, whatever you say, Jay,” Donna replied with a smile, stroking his hair. “Just know you have an ally in me, okay?”

Jason smiled. “Yeah, I’ll remember.”
