May. 23rd, 2009 01:35 pmI knew I shouldn't have gotten into Marvel. I had plot bunnies I wanted to write, but all my brain says is: Read Bucky! Read Billy/Teddy (Yes, I got to Young Avengers; still hating
pervyficgirl for this). Get distracted from cosplay with Marvel fic!
Yeah, fuck you Marvel, go awaaaay. Jason!muse can't talk to me because I THINK he found Bucky in my head. Um, I have no idea what those two are up to. >>;; I'd probably want to watch. <<;; No, there will not be Marvel fic from me, not until I am completely comfortable with the fandom (or backread every bit of Bucky everer *coughs*).
So yeah, Jason!muse is not happy. He wanted to save Thrillerkiller Earth (Earth-37) and Red Rain Earth! He wants Jason/Dick! And
comment_fic wanted Jason/Dick! I wanted to write it! And there was that Fem!Tim/Owen fic... *sits and hate Marvel*
(P.S. Goddammit, why is taking so long to download Captain America #34-49!? Argh. It stopped JUST before Bucky puts on the goddamn suit. ARGH!!! *has fits*)

Steve had wanted Bucky to remember who he was, and there was no doubt that Steve's particular wish had come true.
Who he was, unfortunately, involved a lot of things that...well, had he been the sidekick to any other man, Bucky would have given in and killed himself. What the Russians had made him do, Bucky would never forgive himself for. Ending his life would have been a welcome release.
But Steve had been waiting on him, depending on Bucky to never give and never quit fighting. That had been how their partnership had gone, all those years ago.
And dammit, Bucky remembered that.
Still, when he met Jason Todd for the first time, he recognized right away that recklessness - the kind that said if he was killed in battle, it wouldn't technically be suicide.
Bucky shouldn't have given a damn. Todd was Gotham, and Fury had told him all about Gotham. Since Batman's apparent death, the city had only gotten worse, according to reports.
But a soldier would always recognize another in their midst, Steve had said once. And for that reason, Bucky was sure, even as he fought Jason Todd, that Bucky had finally found a way to repay Steve's gift.
That it would be to another damaged soldier would be something that Steve would have appreciated, Bucky was sure.

Date: 2009-05-23 10:05 pm (UTC)The fact that it was an upgrade did not prevent Bucky from mocking the 40s lifestyle that reeked in every corner and every idea of "entertainment" that Steve Rogers had.
Records. Even Alfred had upgraded to CDs, for fuck's sake.
The great thing about mocking the almighty perfect Steve Rogers was that it was the one thing that could knock Bucky off his goddamn determined path to save him.
And Jason needed to do that. He'd fallen for this "I can make you better" bullshit once. He wasn't falling for it again.
But what the hell, he'd enjoy the free room and board in the mean time - until he pushed Bucky too far, and this "partner" gave up on him, too.
