Jaime figured the next time he saw Batman, it wouldn't be because he went free falling into his city, causing a bit of property damage as he crashed. Totally embarrassing, but at least the scarab kept the fall from snapping his spine in half. That was always good thing, even though he was fighting a bunch of alien robots while his body was creaking in protest.
When the last robot evaded his canon blast, Jaime thought he might pass out before finishing off the last robot, and that would just suck. Fortunately, a batarang came flying by, making the robot go down. Once he knew he was safe, the scarab let him sleep. Before he passed out, he saw a blur above him, but the scarab would keep him safe if it wasn't Batman.

Blinking his eyes open, Jaime jolted out of his sleep, knowing he was definitely not in the Batcave. He was in a soft bed, and that was really weird, since he definitely remembered passing out on the top of building in the middle of Gotham.
“Hey, you're awake,” a voice said from the doorway.
Jaime looked up to see a brightly colored boy, about his age, leaning in the doorway. “Uh, yeah...” Jaime trailed off, rubbing his head. “Who are you?”
The boy gave him a raised eyebrow, or at least Jaime thought he was. He wasn't sure with the domino mask on the boy's face. “I'm Robin, obviously,” he stated, moving his long black and yellow cape to show the stylistic yellow R on his tunic. “And you're the new Blue Beetle. Batman told me about you.”
Jaime blinked, feeling a little embarrassed. “Oh wow, I um... I didn't even know he still had a Robin,” he said stupidly. “I mean! ...can I blame everything that's coming out of my mouth on the robots obviously smacking my brains right out of my skull?”
Robin chuckled a bit before smiling. “Sure,” he said easily. “How're you feeling? I wasn't sure how to get off your armor, so I was going to wait until you woke up to check for injuries.”
Jaime did a mental checklist, asking the scarab if anything was wrong, but he got chirping that definitely meant he was fine. “I'm good. Thanks for bringing me here, though.” He paused. “Uh, where is here, anyway?”
“A Robin's Nest,” Robin answered as Jaime climbed out of bed slowly. “You sure you shouldn't wait a bit before leaving? Might be safer to just stay for the night.”
Jaime fidgeted a bit. “Well, I guess, but I think I'm rested enough for the flight back to El Paso...”
“Well, if you really have to go...” Robin started before grinning slyly. “Or you could stay, and I can tell you all I know about Ted Kord.”
Jaime blinked slowly, face lighting up, before making the scarab let his face show. “Really?” he asked excitedly.
Robin grinned widely. “Really,” he answered, patting the bed next to him. “I bet I can tell you plenty Batman didn't.”
Grinning back, Jaime sat down with barely contained excitement, as he let Robin explain more about the man that was Blue Beetle before him.
