comment_fic. Moooore fic. Prompt: "Author's choice, author's choice, Affirmation by Savage Garden." Post-BftC. Amnesia!Jason. It's a kick I'm on. Part of my
dcu_freeforall claim from Jason (for the prompt #6 'heal'). Dick finds Jason. He doesn't remember a thing, but that doesn't mean his traumas are healed. (There's a sequel called Back Again to Stay written by
kirax2, <3)

When Dick found Jason after he fell into the river, Dick was so very glad that Jason hadn't died. When he found out Jason didn't remember even his own name (“Who's Jason Todd?”), Dick had been more relieved than he should have been. It took a bit of sweet talking, but the street kid in Jason won out over all else when Dick mentioned the mansion he lived in.
Dick knew before he even made it back to the manor that Tim would be angry with him, but once Tim answered the door instead of Alfred, Dick knew Tim had bugged the Batmobile, so he already knew about Jason's amnesia. Tim had his arms crossed as he stared down Jason, as if just looking at him could tell him what Tim needed to know.
Apparently, it was enough, and Tim let them into the manor, murmuring that he made up a room them upstairs. Dick gave Tim a grateful smile as they showed Jason upstairs. Jason was exhausted, and once his head hit the pillow, he was asleep.
“Tim,” Dick murmured, but Tim shook his head.
“Look, I'm still pissed at him, but he needs our help,” Tim stated, turning to leave the bedroom then paused in the doorway. “I saw Bruce's final message to him. ...I can't blame him for losing it over that.”
Knots formed in his stomach, thinking about that final message. “I handled it badly,” Dick said as he watched Jason curl up in his sleep. “I couldn't give him the help he needed.”
Tim frowned before turning to look at Dick. “Still needs, Dick,” he stated with a concerned look. “You have to know amnesia does not mean those traumas are really gone.”
Dick looked at Tim, about to say something when Jason began to thrash on the bed. Tim ran to one side of the bed while Dick ran to the other, trying to wake up Jason. When he did wake up, he clung to Dick and Tim, muttering things about laughs, clowns, and crowbars. Dick and Tim shared a concerned look, but not leaving as Jason begged them not to. Jason was family, and they couldn't leave him when he needed them. They had already done it before; they weren't going to do it again.

Date: 2009-06-15 08:19 pm (UTC)I'm still not completely up on canon, so I don't know what all happened, but I'm glad Dick and Jason are there for him, at least in fic.

Date: 2009-06-15 09:26 pm (UTC)Heh. I could probably come up with a few ways to fix the character myself- I've a few nascent ideas that only require a bit of fleshing out, actually- but to write any of them would involve actually acknowledging that BftC actually happened.

Date: 2009-06-16 12:30 am (UTC)I can acknowledge BftC. It gave me "You're showing me a side I haven't seen very often, Tim... And I like it." AND "Join me. Be my Robin." If I ignored it, those lovely lines would get ignored too, so I selectively ignore parts. :D
