So, I'm 13 chapters in re-reading FMA oh god, dreading the chapter 15 like burning because I'll sob like a baby, and I was talking to Pervy last night about this, so I thought I'd recommend some manga. ...yes, I've regressed back to manga a little bit. Don't worry. It'll probably only lead DCU crossovers. >.>;;

First rec, which I'm re-reading right now, is Full Metal Alchemist. At the moment, it's 99 chapters in, and it's ongoing. It's released once a month, and unlike the weekly manga, it keeps its quality. It can be a bit depressing, but it also has humor that tempers the sadness. The main characters are Edward Elric and Roy Mustang! Alphonse Elric. They lived with their mother, and their father ditched them when they were younger. Their mother never really got over that, so eventually, she got sick and died.

The brothers, who are surprisingly good at the science in this manga called alchemy (they get this from their father), decide to try human transmutation. Human transmutation their father's old books told them a bit about, but Ed really thought it would work with the right materials. The human body is made up a certain amount of water and chemicals, right?

Well, human transmutation is actually illegal, and that's for a reason, the boys find out... Then everything goes wrong for the boys. What they bring back isn't their mother, which is fucked up to begin with, but with the science of alchemy, it's all about Equivalent Exchange. There's not really an equivalent to a human life and soul, so Ed ends up losing an arm and a leg over this while Al loses his body completely, but Ed saved him by transmuting Al's soul to a suit of armor.

And this where everything begins. After that, Ed becomes a National Alchemist to restore his and Al's bodies. They meet some awesome characters Roy Mustang! along the way. ^-^ ...oh god, I just remembered. Just a little thing out of context for the lol. Paraphrased, but only a little: "When I become Fuhrer, all the women will wear miniskirts!" *giggles*

Okay, this manga is finished at 12 volumes/110 chapters. When I first heard about, I thought the premise was quite interesting. I mean, the main character is the villain of the series. ...okay, I don't like the main character for reasons that if explained will probably go over the entry word count.

Okay, really, just because I bitch about the main character doesn't mean anything. Do remember, I hate Batman as a character, but I still read the comics for the Robins, but shut up!. The manga starts with a high school student, Light (or Raito, in Japanese; same thing) Yagami, a genius who is clearly bored with his mundane life and mundane school work. One day during class, he sees something flutter to the ground.

After class, he goes to see what it is. It's a notebook call the Death Note. First rule of the Death Note, whoever's name is written in the notebook will die. Of course, Light scoffs at this at first, thinking it's a stupid prank. This does not stop him from keeping the damned thing. Later, he finds out that the notebook is real, because now he can see the shinigami (death god), that dropped the notebook (each shinigami has one but this one had two since he tricked the shinigami king).

Ryuuk, the shinigami that came with the notebook, says he was looking for something interesting, so he dropped the book to see what would happen. He tells Light the rules, and well... Light starts his little descent into killing evil doers. The thing about the Death Note, you don't have to near the person to kill them. You just have to know their face and their true name. You write it down, and the person will die of heartattack 40 seconds later.

Of course, after all these inmates and terrible people start dying, the world gets suspicious, so the world's greatest detective Batman L is called onto the case. He tricks Light into giving away that he's in Japan with a TV broadcast, and here starts UST rivalry between these too.

So, at this point in the manga, you pretty much tend to pick a side. Are you for Kira or are you for L? Who will be the victor? Now, that would be telling, and it's not like the manga is a million chapters like Naruto or Bleach. You can read it yourself. <3 Try onemanga.com for any of my recs.

If you have any questions about the manga or even the fandoms, leave a comment. I've written for both. ^-^
