Finding Bruce had been easier with a partner, even though he hadn't exactly trusted said partner. Well, he was starting to trust said partner enough to actually still interact with him when they got back to Gotham. And since Jason hadn't tried to slit his throat or stab him with a batarang for some time now, Tim let his guard down a bit. Especially once he found out that Jason hadn't even been around since before the last Crisis, and the Jason that had stabbed him hadn't been this world's Jason at all. That was the only reason he let his guard down around Jason; he wanted to give him a chance.
Though, in retrospect, Tim very much decided this had been a grievous error in judgment as a smirk formed on Jason's lips. “He's jealous,” he stated with a smirk, and Tim had no idea what Jason was talking about.
“He who?” Tim asked exasperatedly; he was used to these little games of 'guess what Jason meant' from their time traveling together.
The smirk only got wider as Jason stalked closer to Tim, making Tim extra wary. Nothing too bad could happen since they were walking in a public place, but having Jason so close was...weird, being the only word he could bring to mind. Jason was still smirking, breathing close to his ear.
“Dickie bird, of course,” Jason whispered smugly. “He thinks we're fucking.”
Tim choked and jumped away from Jason, eyes wide in shock. “What!?” he near shouted, but it was a near thing he didn't.
That only made Jason's smirk grown wider, and Tim kind of hated that, just a little. “It's the truth. He gave me that 'if you hurt my little brother' speech,” Jason explained with a nod of his head. “He was totally spoiling for a fight, baby bird..”
Tim's brows furrowed at that. “Why would he care?” he asked point blank. “He hasn't talked to me since I came back with you and Bruce. It's been months!”
Jason snorted. “It's Dick. He's a fuck up,” he stated, as if that answered everything. “He probably has it in his head you don't want to talk to him after the whole taking your life away from you.”
That made Tim pause for a moment. Yeah, he had been angry at Dick for months about taking away Robin, but it was nearly a whole year later, and while finding Bruce with Jason, he had found himself along the way. He understood how Dick could just take Robin away from him, even though he still didn't like how Dick had gone about it or who Dick had given the mantle to, but that was water under the bridge now.
“But-” Tim started, but his cell went off, so he grabbed it to answer, holding up a hand to Jason to paused their conversation. “Hey. Yeah, Jason's with me. We'll meet you in fifteen, then.”
Snapping the cell shut, Tim looked up to see Jason giving him a quizzical look. “Bruce wants to meet us,” Tim stated, and they both headed off to pick up Tim's Ducati to drive back to the Batcave.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After talking with Bruce, Tim was scowling which meant Jason was grinning, and that made Tim hate him just a little. “Stop grinning,” Tim growled unhappily as he moved to the back of the locker room to get his outfit for the undercover mission. “Smug tall bastard.”
“You forgot to mention well-muscled and oh so manly,” Jason added as he lounged on the bench by the back closet. “Not my fault you're so girly.”
“I'm not girly,” Tim stated through gritted teeth as he went through the closet of woman's clothes. “You're going to be insufferable. Why couldn't Bruce just let me go to this solo?”
Jason shrugged. “It's one of those shindigs where a girl going stag would be a faux pas or some shit,” he stated as he leaned to the side to look past Tim and into the closet. “Bruce said you'll want to stand out, but not because you look like you could take any guy down with a good swift kick to the balls. Try the red wig.”
Tim was going to pick the blond wig just to spite Jason, but blonds and brunettes were really a dime a dozen, so he grabbed the red wig unhappily. “I hate you,” he muttered as he took out the the gaff and false breasts that were about C cup. “Why are you still watching me? Shouldn't you be getting into a tux?”
That got a cringe which made Tim smile a bit. “Yeah, yeah,” Jason muttered as he got up, stretching. “Go with the green dress. You'd look hot.”
With that, Jason left, and Tim scowled at the rather short dark green dress. He knew green was Jason's favorite color, so there was no way he was wearing it. He was being a little spiteful, but Jason wasn't the one that had to be in the dress. Actually, with Jason's build even before, Tim doubted Jason ever had to cross-dress for a mission. That made Tim a bit jealous as he dug around for another dress.
He found a blue dress, and Tim ignored the fact that it was definitely the same shade as the blue on Dick's Nightwing costume. He grabbed a matching pair of high heels then started digging for the jewelry. He hadn't dressed as a woman for anything for a while, and Tim was not going to enjoy it, especially not with Jason as his date.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If Jason kept him waiting any longer, they were going to be late, and not even just fashionably so. Tim knew Jason hated getting dressed up, but wearing a tux was nothing to what Tim had to wear, so he wished Jason would suck it up and get in the limo already. When the door opened, Tim gave an exasperated sigh.
“Took you long enough. I know you hate tuxes but-” Tim started ranting, turning to face Jason halfway through only to find it wasn't Jason at all. “...Dick.”
Dick cringed a little, turning to glare outside the limo where Jason was standing in a pair of very comfortable looking but ratty jeans and worn t-shirt. “Have fun, kids!” he sing-songed as he shut the limo door behind Dick.
Tim was about to get out of the limo to tell Jason off, but the limo started moving, much to his dismay. “That bastard,” Tim muttered. “He set me up.”
“Sorry,” Dick murmured apologetically. “Jason told me that I was meeting someone else for this mission.”
Tim snorted. “Yeah, he lied,” he said, shifting a bit uncomfortably. “Jerk probably just wanted out of wearing a tux.”
Dick nodded quietly, and that was when the awkward silence started. Tim knew Dick wouldn't break it, so after a few moments, he cleared his throat to get Dick to look at him. “I'm not mad at you, you know,” he stated quietly.
Dick stared at him. “Really...?” he asked rather hopefully.
Tim nodded. “I was, and still am, not happy about how you handled firing me, but I get it,” he explained. “I forgive you.”
That got a smile from Dick that Tim hadn't seen in a while, albeit a small one. “I'm glad,” he murmured quietly. “Now that I know you don't hate me, I wanted to ask about-”
“I'm not with Jason,” Tim blurted out then backpedaling a bit. “If that's what you were going to ask, we're not...a thing. He's just a friend, a very annoying friend.”
Dick smiled a bit more at that. “That was what I was going ask... I'm kinda of relieved.”
“Why?” Tim questioned, really wanting to know the answer.
Before Tim could answer, they arrived to the hotel where the gala they were attending was being held. Alfred opened the door for them, and it was time to put on the facade of Richard Grayson and his ditzy date. Dick stepped out of the car and held out a hand for Tim, and the answer to Tim's question would just have to wait until later.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The gala was packed full of high society people, and it was a surprise Bruce didn't just do this himself, but Batman was needed, and this needed a 'woman.' Tim was just waiting until Damian was old enough to pull this off and hoped the brat didn't fill out like Jason. Fortunately, finding the person they needed to find and making sure nothing happened had been easier than Dick and Tim thought it'd be.
Dick got a call from Bruce mid-way during the party informing him that the lead they had for this part had been a dud. Bruce apologized, and Dick and Tim didn't really blame him for the bad intel. Bruce had just come back from quite the ordeal, so small screws up weren't worth getting worked up about, even if it meant Tim ended up in a dress for nothing.
“We could probably leave soon without being suspicious,” Tim murmured to Dick in a low tone, keeping up the facade of a woman.
Dick nodded a little, but it was a bit stiff. Tim frowned at that and decided to pull Dick away from the party, pretending to be that kind of girl that would drag her date off for a quickie, so they could talk. Once Tim was sure they were alone, he forced Dick to look at him.
“You've been tense all night,” he stated, crossing his arms over the fake breasts, accidentally framing them and making them look better. “What's wrong, Dick?”
Dick swallowed a little, giving a weak smile. “No reason,” he lied, but Tim gave him a glare that said he wouldn't let them leave until Dick gave him a truthful answer. “...it's the wig.”
Tim blinked. “Huh?” he asked, confusion washing over his features.
“And looking cute like that really isn't helping,” he muttered.
“Cute?” Tim asked, scowling. “I'm not a girl, Dick.”
“I know that, it's just...” Dick trailed off. “You're you, and...”
Tim's brows furrowed. “I don't understand. I'm me? What's that supposed to mean?”
Dick gave a little frustrated noise before muttering a bit. “Don't hate me for this.”
Before Tim could ask what Dick meant by that, he felt Dick's hand on his cheek and on the back of his neck before Dick pulled him up for a kiss. Tim made a small noise in surprise, but melted into the kiss after a moment, wrapping his arms around Dick's neck. He had missed Dick after nearly a year of not seeing him, and Tim had always thought about what it would be like to kiss Dick, ever since he hit puberty, really.
Tim felt his back get pressed against a wall as the kiss deepened. Tim couldn't believe this was happening, and soon, it was over when Dick pulled away for air. He looked breathless, and Tim just wanted to lean up and kiss Dick again. Though, Tim did lean up, using his thumb to wipe his lipstick from Dick's lips with a small smile.
“What was that for?” he questioned then quickly added. “Not that I minded.”
Dick looked relieved when Tim spoke up. “I've missed you,” Dick confessed, thumb caressing Tim's cheek. “And it didn't help you were wearing my colors tonight, and well, the red hair too.”
Tim snorted, and he couldn't believe that Dick's red head fetish slipped his mind for even a moment, but he did have Dick's colors in mind when he picked the dress which made him blush a bit. “Does that mean you've been thinking about doing that for a while?”
Dick nodded, giving a little grin. “Yeah, but I thought you were mad at me and with Jason so...” he trailed off.
“You avoided me,” Tim finished for him. “Well, neither of those points are true, so what are you going to do?”
“Kiss you again?” Dick offered cheekily.
Tim huffed pulling Dick down almost close enough to kiss again. “How about I kiss you instead?” he asked with a smirk.
“That works,” Dick answered as he let himself get pulled into a heated kiss, grinning as Tim kissed him with more enthusiasm this time, and it was definitely a promise for more later.
