Reading people was useful. Cass enjoyed it, and knowing other people couldn’t do it like she could was interesting, but sometimes, she read people, and it just made situations worse. That why she liked fighting better. Her skill was always useful in that setting, but in a social setting, not so much.
Not that talking with Jason was really a social thing. Cass wasn’t quite sure what to call it since she wasn’t a social person, and neither was Jason. Actually, she was the only one Jason would talk to other than Babs. He ignored the rest of the family.
Maybe it could be called an anti-social thing, Cass thought as Jason talked to her about his patrol last night. He was just talking about that since he had nothing else, and she knew it. Jason wanted to stay, but he didn’t have the words to say that. That was how it usually ended up, nowadays, but there was something else in Jason’s posture, the way he held himself around her that was new.
Cass knew what this was and put a finger to Jason’s lips. He quieted then scowled at her. She smiled.
“Shut up and kiss me,” she told him.
Jason stared for a moment, about to open his mouth to ask her something, but Cass moved in swiftly, pressing her lips to his. That shut him up, and he just kissed her back, no questions asked. She could tell that the tension from earlier had left, and Cass was glad while she enjoyed the kiss. Maybe reading people like this was actually more useful than she thought.
