"This is just a phase right? The whole 'girls like bad boys' thing?"
"No."
Tim cringed at that reply. “Cass...”
Cass leveled a glare on him. “No,” she stated firmly. “He is...good. Not bad.”
“Cass, he kills people-”
“So have I.”
“Not what I meant, and you know it,” Tim stated, running a hand through his hair.
“He’s...hurt. He needs...” she trailed off, the words failing her.
Tim almost, for a split second, felt sorry for Jason, but then he felt a phantom twinge from the scar on his neck, and that sympathy vanished into thin air. “Cassandra, he’s dangerous,” he told her, “and he could hurt you.”
Cass almost scoffed. “I can beat him,” she said confidently.
“Not the kind of hurt I mean,” Tim said quietly. “Emotional hurt can be worse than the physical.”
Tim could see the wheels turning in Cass’ head, the moment of sadness when Steph is silently brought to mind by his words, and the firm resolve. “I...will be careful,” she stated. “Do not worry.”
With those last few words, Tim watched Cass leave the apartment to meet Jason, hoping he didn’t need to worry, but he would anyway.
