------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Usually, Jason knew how to keep his anger in check. When he lived on the streets, he had to, or pissing off the wrong person inevitable, and that would have left him dead in a gutter somewhere. But since living with Bruce and being Robin, Jason gotten a bit lax with holding back his anger. He didn’t see a reason to anymore. He was Robin, and that meant he was more or less safe.
At least, that was Jason’s mindset before he met Connor Hawke. At first, the kid was awkward in his bright red and yellow costume, so Jason teased him playfully, not maliciously. Their first few meetings went without a hitch, but that didn’t stay the case. About the fifth time they met, it had been the anniversary of his mom’s death. Jason was less than pleasant.
Jason didn’t even remember what he said, but he was pretty sure it was something snide about Connor’s mother. Next thing he knew, he was knocked flat on his ass. He could feel his eye swelling, and Jason growled and pounced. Soon they were grappling on the ground exchanging blows until Green Arrow and Batman pulled them apart.
Ollie blamed Jason, while Bruce assumed nothing. “Who threw the first punch?” Bruce asked.
Connor’s eyes widened, and Jason stayed silent. It was obvious to Jason that Connor would be in trouble if Jason admitted Connor threw the first punch. Before this fight, Connor was starting to grow on him, maybe starting to become a friend.
“I did,” Jason lied easily.
He wasn’t sure Bruce believed him, but Ollie ate him up. “Keep your Robin from flying off the handle around my kid, Batman,” Ollie growled. “We’re going back to Star City. See you around, Bats.”
Bruce glanced down at Jason, and that was when Jason knew Bruce saw right through that lie but was going to let it slide. He turned away and headed for the Batmobile without a word. Connor looked back at Jason, mouthing thank you. Jason smirked and mouthed back no problem before jogging to catch up with Batman.
